Why Marco Polo…?

Our university, University of Southern Maine, has a weird mix of folks.  Because we have three campuses, one residential and one commuter, and one rreeaaalllyyy far away, we attract traditional students who live on campus in Gorham, non-traditional, commuter students who live off campus and come to class in Portland, and I think things happen at Lewiston-Auburn Campus.

From my observations, as one of those non-traditional, commuter students, we come to class, we do our work, and we go home, or to our jobs, or back to our lives.  We do not spend much time on this campus, socializing or accessing events.  We’re just too busy.  We have kids.  We have partners.  We have jobs.  We have these awesome little things called lives, and taking classes is just one of the many, many, many things we do.

So, this blog is some of us, calling out to you, to show you what our little lives look like.  Some of us are barely on campus.  Some of us live – literally or figuratively – on campus.  Some of us are traditional college ages.  Some of us aren’t.  But we’re into lots of cool things, and we want to share those things with you.  So, we hope you’ll read along and share your thoughts with us.

Marco!  It’s up to you if you answer ‘Polo’.
